Initiated in aims to fight blight and promote shared community spaces, I Dig It wanted to make a difference in our community on a small scale. In partnership with our sister nonprofit, the NOLA Artist Incubator, the Galvez Garden provides opportunity to offer services as a teaching garden and compost drop off site. The NOLA Artist Incubator offers educational workshops on sustainable urban agriculture and an Artist-in-Residency program at our site. I Dig it is thrilled that the nonprofit activates the space through workshops and events with local artists and culture bearers.
Neighbors are welcomed to learn about vegetable gardening in our micro farm, composting, growing native pollinator plants, stormwater management solutions, raising livestock for eggs and fertilizer, and other permaculture projects on site. The site is designed to mitigate flooding and act as a teaching garden, exploring a range of gardening techniques. The Galvez Garden is an opportunity to share ecological and economical ways New Orleanians can take on a more active role in storm water management and benefit from urban gardens.

With the new greenhouse on site we are able to propagate and sell plants through our state certified Nursery! Lissie’s Little Nursery is open by appointment only. Call (504) 722-9349 or email Lissie@idigitnola.com to see what we have in our inventory.

The Galvez Garden is a growing urban garden in the St. Roch neighborhood (and I dig it).

Transforming Spaces And Growing Green
The Galvez Garden is an LSUAg Master Gardener project site. Master Gardeners looking to gain hours at our garden are welcome to learn and grow with us at the garden.

Building Community

Collaborating For Collective Good
I Dig It is affiliated with Compost NOW and is proud to be listed among several registered drop off sites throughout the city. We offer compost drop off on Sundays from 10:00-2:00 to divert food waste from our landfills. You may drop off frozen food waste in the bins located on site.

Compost NOW is a free residential food waste collection project in New Orleans. The mission of this organization is to empower local residents to take collective action over the issue of food waste.

I Dig It is excited to collaborate with Keep Louisiana Beautiful as participants in the Love the Boot Week. We host a Love the Boot event with the NOLA Artist Incubator annually as part of the Earth Day initiative supported by our Governor and Lieutenant Governor, to clean up our communities and spread awareness for the litter problem Louisiana continues to experience.
